Gunbot buys like a charm but fails to ever sell anything
« on: November 14, 2017, 09:04:58 PM »
I have been using Gunbot XT with the GUI and its been working quite well, but only for buying. The buys it makes are generally good, and my account is overall still in the green after I manually sell the bags. However, this severely inhibits my ability to use the bot because it seems to get stuck on the selling part of bbstepgain. I will be testing a different sell strategy (I quite like the BB buy strategy), but if anyone has had similar issues it would be great if you could let me know what changes you made. Below is a screenshot of the config and the console readout(s).

I have the same problem on BBStepgain, buys in a great spot, but never sells, even if the coin falls below bought value.

Still don't know what causes it.

 I use bbstepgain on all pairs. I don't think it "forgets" to ever sell anything, so far no bags. This is my bbstepgain part, maybe compare? I used to have a much flatter EMA1 and 2 (like 200-50), but now I use stock settings for that.

"bbstepgain": {
            "NAME": "bbstepgain",
            "TRADING_LIMIT": xxxwhatever,
            "PERIOD": 15,
            "BUY_LEVEL": 0.1,
            "GAIN": 0.85,
            "EMA1": 16,
            "EMA2": 8,
            "HIGH_BB": 40,
            "LOW_BB": 40,
            "STDV": 2,
            "SMAPERIOD": 150,
            "SELLLVL1": 1.1,
            "SELLLVL2": 2,
            "SELLLVL3": 70,
            "SELLLVL": 1,
            "PANIC_SELL": false,
            "DOUBLE_UP": false,
            "DOUBLE_UP_CAP": 1,
            "STOP_LIMIT": 60,
            "BUY_ENABLED": true,
            "MIN_VOLUME_TO_BUY": 0.0001,
            "MIN_VOLUME_TO_SELL": 0.0001,
            "TRADES_TIMEOUT": 0 SAFETY IS OFF, THE BOT IS IN COMMANDO MODE

Thanks for the answer, I'm trying your settings as we speak to compare.

you can tweak selllvl1 to a lower value if you are happy with that, but I think the market has gained a bit of momentum, so I keep it above 1%.

I've experienced the same issue.  Three buys, one bot sell and two manual sells.  My only settings difference from above is my SMAPERIOD is set to 50.

The logs look very strange, it keeps listing the open trade and saying waiting to sell, then in a subsequent round it doesn't even mention the opened trade and says no new opportunities found.  Shouldn't the way it works be once it has entered the sell cycle for an open trade, it should be sold?  The trend watcher says trend is still up, then nothing.  I would think upon that transition, it should sell.

not on stepgain.

your smaperiod setting along with the period configures the trendwatcher.  mine has not yet failed to sell.

But SMAPERIOD also affects the calculation of the bb.  When you hover over SMAPERIOD in the XT GUI, on the strategies tab, under bbstepgain, it actually says to "Use same value as on exchange chart", for me on bittrex, that's actually 20.

From the wiki: This parameter defines the amount of periods to be used for the simple moving average calculation. Set this value to the value used to chart on the exchange. If you want to use SMA 50 on the exchange charts, set this value to 50.

it affects both.

Values: numerical – represents a number of candlesticks. This parameter defines the amount of periods to be used for the simple moving average calculation. Set this value to the value used to chart on the exchange. If you want to use SMA 50 on the exchange charts, set this value to 50. This parameter (together with PERIOD) configures the trend watcher, and is used for DOUBLE_UP in stepgain strategy.

Same problem here.

Using GB XT 6.0.1 and bbstepgain as a strategy with those settings :

            "PERIOD": 15,
            "BUY_LEVEL": 0.6,
            "GAIN": 0.6,
            "EMA1": 16,
            "EMA2": 8,
            "HIGH_BB": 25,
            "LOW_BB": 25,
            "STDV": 2,
            "SMAPERIOD": 10,
            "SELLLVL1": 1,
            "SELLLVL2": 3,
            "SELLLVL3": 10,
            "SELLLVL": 1,
            "PANIC_SELL": false,
            "DOUBLE_UP": true,
            "DOUBLE_UP_CAP": 1,
            "STOP_LIMIT": 100,
            "BUY_ENABLED": true,
            "MIN_VOLUME_TO_BUY": 0.001,
            "MIN_VOLUME_TO_SELL": 0.001,
            "TRADES_TIMEOUT": 100

Today, it bought BCC at 0.14899, and it rose at 0.15731. The bot was in sell cycle, seeing the trend was still up and waiting to sell for a while. When it stopped rising, it went out of sell cycle, and therefore didn't sell anything. Am I doing something wrong? Shouldn't the bot have sold when down to 3%, my selllvl2?

Thanks

the bot doesn't react in miliseconds. sometimes it will miss a window with stepgain, specially with a lot of cycling pairs. I don't bother, but I think there might be a remedy. it's the use of simple gain as your sale strategy. I use BB to buy and stepgain to sell. It is in fact doing so nicely, I'm not touching anything except trade limit. The bot has made 6% profit in 4 days on just 9 pairs. on Kraken, of all places! I had to set it fairly slow, because cloudflare and/or Krak's servers constantly crap out for the last 10 days, so I'm sure there were some missed windows for profit. even so, I'm very happy.

No, I reverted to v3.3.2 until Gunbot XT is made stable.

I have the same issue, also almost the same parameters but I have recognized something.

In my case, I am trading ETH/USD. Even though I have balances in USD and ETH, Gunbot reports:

Balance USD: with the correct value but
Balance ETH: with Zero

If that's the case, that Gunbot indeed believes I own no ETH then that might be the reason why it doesn't sell.

Can somebody else confirm this?

I have been using Gunbot XT with the GUI and its been working quite well, but only for buying. The buys it makes are generally good, and my account is overall still in the green after I manually sell the bags.

Something I don't understand. You say that the bot buys, but doesn't sell. You then sell "the bags" and still make a profit.

This actually means that the bot works great. Your screenshot confirms this. It shows the message "Good to buy OR good to sell OR can be averaged OR Panic Sell: true", which means it's ok to sell. A few lines below that, it shows the price at which it will eventually sell. This price is lower then the current price. So even when the price drops some more, it will still sell for profit. The bot is simply trying to make more profit, waiting for the price to rise to a next threshold.
I don't know about your settings, but maybe that level is a little too high for the current market situation. If that level is set to 70%, the bot is waiting for the price to rise to a level where it will sell for 70% profit. When the price stays at whatever-profit-level, but not high enough to reach the highest price-level, it will never sell.

Maybe you should lower the highest sell-level to settle for a little less profit. But I doubt that would help a lot. It may induce a sell, but when the price doesn't rise from that point, it may not buy again, or get stuck after buying at that level.

I think it's just the market-situation.
