Buying a car that’s already landed can simplify paperwork, while importing directly from Japan may give you a wider selection. Which route would you choose, and how much extra hassle would you accept for the right car? JDMBUYSELL supports listings from both local sellers and overseas exporters, making it possible to compare the two approaches.

I went the already-imported route for my first JDM car and honestly, the extra cost was worth skipping the customs and inspection headaches. That said, if you have a specific rare model in mind, direct import from Japan gives you way more options. I’ve been browsing jdmbuysell.com to compare both paths side by side, and it’s been handy since they show local dealer stock and overseas listings in one place. For me, it depends on your patience level — if you’re okay waiting months for a ship, importing is a fun project. Otherwise, paying a small premium for something landed saves a lot of stress.
